Dear Students, Families, and Staff members,
On Monday, Governor Baker announced some further restrictions for gatherings as part of a “stay-at-home” statewide advisory. The central office and school department staff have set up our phone system and video conferencing to remain in contact with our students and their families. More information will be forthcoming in the next week. If you call the central office number (413-776-1458), your call can be answered remotely, so if you encounter any needs or difficulties that the school department can assist you with please do not hesitate to contact us.
Required Social Distancing
The need for social distancing is not just a recommendation, but a requirement. Mayor Thomas Bernard has emphasized the use of public spaces for passive recreational use (walking and jogging) in order to obey the Governor’s order prohibiting gatherings of 10 or more individuals. This includes all public parks, the skateboard park, sports complexes, athletic fields, and playgrounds. Use of these spaces must include the social distancing recommendation of maintaining a distance of at least 6 feet.
Food Distribution Program (free to all North Adams resident children)
The Food Services department will continue to operate the “grab and go” lunch and breakfast at each of the following sites:
- Brayton Elementary school (front of school)
- Colegrove Park Elementary School (front of school)
- Greylock Apartments
- Mohawk Forest (Community Center)
- Uno Center (back parking area)
Any child under the age of 18, regardless of school enrollment, is eligible to receive a nutritious lunch with breakfast for the following morning. In addition to the free grab and go meals, we are also distributing fresh produce and excess milk from the district’s supply as well as from other area resources. If you have special circumstances and require assistance in accessing the food service program, please call (413) 776-1458.
Please continue to visit the district website, www.napsk12.org, to see ongoing updates to At Home Learning Activities to find more new student learning opportunities. Also, in the coming week, expect to see our launch of a consistent model of student-teacher learning.
If you need a technological device to support student learning at home, there is a limited number of devices available for loan. Please call 413-776-1458 to indicate you need to borrow a device from the school district. Please be sure to leave your name and telephone number so we can follow up with you to make the necessary arrangements.
I am hoping that each of you is able to stay healthy and engaged through the coming weeks of this crisis. We stand together as a community and the actions we take today keep all of us healthy for the many tomorrows.
Barbara Malkas, Ed.D.
